REVIEW
So when the opportunity to read Stranger in the Mind by @aspenberrywood popped up I was really excited.
Lately I have been slowly bringing out of my fantasy bubble to explore new genres. Some books I have found have really worked for me and others have fallen flat.
I am really happy to say that this one did not fall flat and did not disappoint.
We get straight in to the action from the start. I liked the switch between POVs. Camelia was a great main character. She lived in a time where being female and a detective wasn't really accepted but she ploughed on regardless. There are hints about her past and I'm looking forward to getting to know more about her as the series goes on.
As for Dr Knight.. he really did make me feel sick but that just means he was written well. He has no redeeming qualities in my eyes but he was just intriguing to read about. I think people like him itch the phycologist part of my brain. I definitely don't advocatewhat he has done but really would want to get in to his head. It brings up the aged old question of nature vs nurture. Could he have turned out different if his environment was different or would he have still followed this path regardless??
I am looking forward to reading more of Decetive Dei's journey.
I do just want to give a content warning for discussion around SA. It doesn't go in to explicit detail with the book but I feel like this is something that should be noted before you decide to read it. This is set in the 1920s so some comments made about women are of that time so again just note that going in. It didn't bother me because it was clear that this was not okay and our feisty detective Amelia Dei knew how to deal with the men around her and did what she though was right despite barriers placed in her way.
